About

Welcome to Atypical Dish

Hi, I'm Amanda: ADHDer, home cook, foodie, wife, and mom of two neurodivergent kids.

I created Atypical Dish to share resources with families looking to minimize some of the common symptoms associated with being neurodivergent: emotional dysregulation, hyperactivity, difficulty focusing, explosive or obsessive behavior, and trouble sleeping.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and was told that medication was the only solution to help me manage daily life as an ADHD woman with two small children.

This news shocked me. Surely, there were additional resources out there that could help me juggle life as a working mother and wife beyond pharmaceuticals?! But my prescriber assured me I was mistaken.

Many years later, I am here to tell you that my physician was the one who was misinformed. Medication is just one way to help support neurodivergent people struggling in a world not designed for them.

No amount of diet and exercise will change how a neuro-atypical person perceives the world. But, some diet and lifestyle changes can help the way we feel in this world.

Please join me on this adventure as I share recipes, resources, and more to help you and your family thrive in this typical world we find ourselves in.
